This book introduces the epidemiological characteristics, etiology, molecular biology, virology and the latest research progress of COVID-19. It also presents the clinical manifestations, diagnosis and treatment of the new infectious disease. The content is based on literature review of a large number of relevant articles published in China and abroad, as well as the experience of medical workers in this field in China. In the pandemic, experts from major hospitals in Shanghai had successfully treated more than 300 patients with COVID-19. Their valuable experience in diagnosis and treatment has been summarized and included in the book. It is hoped that this book will be helpful to the vast number of readers who are concerned about the research progress and treatment of COVID-19.
W. Zhang. He has led a number of multi-center registered clinical trials in the areas of MDR-TB tuberculosis, latent tuberculosis, and chronic viral hepatitis. He developed a new strategy to treat MDR-TB and shortened the treatment duration from 24 months to 12 months. Moreover, he has led a clinical trial to treat tubercular meningitis and increased the survival rate with linezolid. The new strategy to treat tubercular meningitis was accepted by WHO guidelines for tuberculosis. Meanwhile, his team discovered the characteristics of HBV RNA and its relationship with the pathogenesis of chronic hepatitis B. As the head of Shanghai COVID-19 Medical Treatment Expert Team, Prof. Zhang successfully guided his team and treated more than 300 patients with COVID-19 from January to March 2020 in Shanghai. He has accumulated a lot of successful experience in treating COVID-19 patients.
As a PI and clinical investigator, he has published 125 peer-reviewed papers in English SCI-indexed journals, including Journal of Hepatology, Science, Clinical Infectious Diseases, European Journal of Respiratory Diseases, and Emerging Infectious Diseases. Dr Zhang has served as an associate editor for Emerging Microbes and Infection and Chinese Journal of Infectious Diseases.
