Karolína Skorkovská, MD, PhD, graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic, in 2002. She then undertook postgraduate studies in the Department of Ophthalmology and Optometry, Masaryk University and St. Ann University Hospital, Brno, completinga thesis on the importance of structural examination methods in the follow-up of patients with ocular hypertension. In 2009 Dr. Skorkovská passed the Specialization Examination in Ophthalmology at the Institute of Postgraduate Education, Prague. She continues to work at the Department ofOphthalmology and Optometry, Masaryk University/St. Ann University Hospital, Brno, specializing in glaucoma, neuro-ophthalmology, and cataract surgery. She has been the recipient of a Marie Curie Fellowship and of a Fellowship from the Jung Foundation. Dr. Skorkovská has publishedalmost 20 articles in national and international journals and received an award from the Czech Glaucoma Society for the best publication on glaucoma in 2008.
