This monograph is written by a gynecologic oncologist with special expertise in managing patients with breast cancer and it is designed to provide the obstetrician - gynecologist with information about therapy and post-treatment follow-up care of breast cancer survivors. Given the large number of women who develop breast cancer, this care most likely will be a significant part of most practices. Patients will expect their obstetrician - gynecologist to be able to explain therapies that they are undergoing and to counsel them so that they will have the best possible quality of life. Coordination of care for the patient with breast cancer and integration of support services are important. The obstetrician - gynecologist is the women's health care advocate and is in the unique position to provide continued care for women with breast cancer.
