Clinical Management of Swallowing Disorders Workbook, Fifth Edition is designed to aid instructors in the delivery of content and to enhance and reinforce student comprehension alongside the graduate-level textbook, Clinical Management of Swallowing Disorders, Fifth Edition. The textbook addresses the needs of students who will treat swallowing disorders as well as clinicians who currently treat swallowing disorders in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, and private outpatient clinics. The fifth edition has been extensively revised and includes one new chapter and major updates on two other chapters. 

The workbook reflects these updates and covers all chapters in the textbook. The workbook contains true or false, multiple-choice, and fill-in-the-blank questions, along with study topics related to each chapter of the textbook. The questions are closely connected to the textbook, allowing students to review chapter material and quiz themselves in an efficient manner. Once the chapter answers are filled in, the workbook chapters can be used as a study guide or a quick refresher for those in practice. The workbook offers students another opportunity to remain current with their understanding of swallowing disorders.

Authors

Thomas Murry, PhD, CCC-SLP, is Professor and Co-Director of the Voice and Swallowing Center in the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Loma Linda Health University and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Drexel University College of Medicine. Dr. Murry received the Honors of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association in 2010, the highest honor of the association, and also received a Presidential Citation from the American Laryngological Association. Dr. Murry is recognized throughout the world for his clinical, education, and research contributions to voice and swallowing disorders. He has authored over 150 peer-reviewed publications in national and international journals. He has presented over 600 lectures at national meetings and in meetings in more than 35 countries. He has championed the need for combined management of voice and swallowing disorders among otolaryngologists, pulmonologists, and other medical professions.

Dr. Ricardo Carrau joined the Department of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery Department at The Ohio State University as a tenured Professor in Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery in April 2011. He is the Acting Chair of the Department, Director of the Comprehensive Skull Base Surgery Program, Co-Director of the research and education laboratory ALT-VISION (Anatomy Laboratory Toward Visuospatial Innovations in Otolaryngology and Neurosurgery) and Medical Director of The OSUMC Global Health. The Comprehensive Skull Base Surgery Program is part of the Head & Neck Oncology Division at The James Cancer Hospital and the Solove Research Institute at The Ohio State University Medical Center (OSUMC) with ties to the Divisions of Rhinology and Neuro-Otology.

Dr. Carrau’s clinical interests are diverse and include swallowing disorders, traditional and endoscopic skull base surgery, head and neck oncology, disorders of the salivary glands and sialendoscopy, disorders of the paranasal sinuses and endoscopic sinus surgery and laryngotracheal stenosis.

Karen Chan, PhD, is an Assistant Professor and Director of the Swallowing Research Laboratory at The University of Hong Kong. She received her speech-language pathology training and PhD from The University of Hong Kong. Dr. Chan is an experienced clinician and researcher in the areas of voice and swallowing disorders. Her early research focuses on perceptual voice evaluation and voice training for professional voice users. Her current research interests are in assessment and treatment for motor speech disorders and swallowing problems in elderly, poststroke individuals, and head and neck cancer survivors.
