About the Editors
Index
This practical guide to the management of thyroid nodules and cancer offers the practitioner a common-sense approach to the management of an increasingly common clinical problem. Thyroid cancer is the most rapidly increasing cancer diagnosis in the United States and is now the fifth most common cancer among women. Indeed, an estimated 65,000 adults (15,000 men and 50,000 women) in the United States will be diagnosed this year with thyroid cancer. Many more will be treated for thyroid nodules.
Unfortunately, practice patterns still vary greatly across the country and the world. Many patients we believe are inappropriately treated. Practitioners seeking to help their patients and make sense of conflicting thyroid cancer guidelines will discover illustrative cases that represent common situations in clinical practice. Unlike encyclopedic guidelines and impenetrable textbooks, this straightforward casebook engages, informs and entertains the reader. Even so, the book’s scenarios cover a broad range of clinical presentations from incidental microcarcinomas to invasive metastatic cancers. Here, molecular diagnostics and advanced imaging are demystified and incorporated into common-sense approaches stressing the importance of personalized care. And readers seeking deeper understanding will be guided in the book’s digital version with hyperlinks to primary source material.
