Description
Promoting the health and wellbeing of patients is a vital part of the nursing role. Fundamentals of Health Promotion for Nurses is a concise, accessible introduction to health promotion and public health for pre-registration nursing students and newly qualified nurses.
This user-friendly book discusses the foundations for health promotion practice using practical examples, activities and discussion points, designed to encourage readers to reflect on their values, debate the issues and apply their knowledge and understanding to practice situations. Tying in closely with the NMC Standards for Pre-Registration Education, 2010, this new edition has been fully revised in both content and structure, with several brand new chapters and expanded areas of discussion. It takes a practical approach to health promotion in different placement settings in which the student nurse will be asked to reflect on what they have observed on placement and how the theory in the chapter has helped them to make sense of the practice observed.
New to this edition
- The book is now in the ‘Fundamentals’ series- a collection of essential, 4-colour textbooks, each covering a core area of pre-registration nursing
- A revised structure, designed to enhance the accessibility and user-friendliness of the book
- A brand-new chapter on ‘Long Term Conditions’, to include information on diabetes, stroke, arthritis (strategies will include empowerment through expert patient programme, lifestyle advice, self-help groups)
- Key topics covered only briefly in the 1st edition are now to be expanded into entire chapters, ie ‘Smoking’, ‘Alcohol’, ‘Obesity’ and ‘Physical activity’.
- Brand-new chapters on ‘Evidence Based Practice’ and ‘Implementing policy’, which identify the skills needed, and how they relate to the RCN Knowledge & Skills Framework
- New online resource centre with instructor and student resources, including links to further reading, additional activities and resources, and self-testing interactive multiple choice questions
- Further inclusion of application to practice scenarios/case studies; boxed examples of evidence based approach to the issue; quizzes/multiple choice tests within each chapter
