Essentials of Bowel Anastomosis is intended to be a comprehensive yet concise reference work covering modern techniques of bowel surgery, describing both hand-sewnand stapled anastomoses in two settings, conventional open surgery, and minimally invasive surgery. This text covers the entire spectrum of gastrointestinal anastomosis,including anatomy, indications, and basic surgical principles and techniques through detailed instruction in both hand-sewn and stapled anastomoses, making this bookunique in its coverage of how to deal with both simple and complex gastrointestinal conditions. Essentials of Bowel Anastomosis was originally developed by Dr. Zarour as anoperative manual to accompany the Essentials of Bowel Anastomosis (EBA)® course. This course was introduced to expose the candidate to safe surgical practice within acontrolled setting, and focuses on teaching and assessing skill acquisition of safe surgical techniques common to all forms of gastrointestinal surgery.
About the Author
Dr. Zarour is a Consultant General Trauma and Laparoscopic Surgeon at Hamad General Hospital, Doha, State of Qatar where healso serves as the Director of Trauma Critical Care and as faculty in clinical surgery for the Weill Cornell Medical College Qatar. Heis a graduate of the Sind Medical College, University of Karachi, Pakistan. Dr. Zarour completed his internship with the Ministry ofHealth Hospitals in Jordan, and his residency in General Surgery at the Islamic Hospital in Amman, Jordan. He received a Diploma in Laparoscopy from the Strasbourg University Hospital in France and completed a Trauma Critical Care Fellowship at the R. AdamsCowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Maryland-USA. Dr. Zarour is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the RoyalCollege of Surgeons in Ireland. His clinical interests include trauma surgery, general and laparoscopic surgery, and surgical criticalcare. Dr. Zarour's main research interests include hemostasis in surgery, bowel anastomosis, laparoscopy in trauma, and damagecontrol surgery. Dr. Zarour has directed several international courses in trauma and surgery. He is the recipient of the Spirit ofService Award and the Peak Performance Award of Merit, both from Hamad Medical Corporation, for his contributions in improvingpatient care and service to the institution. He received the ATLS Bronze Award from the American College of Surgeons, SaudiChapter, for his teaching and leadership in Advanced Trauma Life Support.
