Mechanical Circulatory Support: Principles and Applications offers innovative approaches to complex clinical scenarios and represents the current state-of-the-art for managing patients on mechanical circulatory support devices. Topics are presented in a concise fashion, making it a practical resource for care givers who need a user's manual in the heat of the moment during patient care as well as a reference for a better understanding of the unique components of every device available for human use.
This book provides a comprehensive, up-to-date analysis of the most relevant issues facing health care providers in the management of advanced heart failure. With content that features patient selection strategies, implantation techniques, device specific considerations, and management of clinical challenges in the post-operative setting, this textbook offers evidence-based answers to the complex questions facing nurses, perfusionists, advanced practice providers, and physicians.
- Analyzes the management of the unique adverse events encountered with movement disorders
- Includes device-specific management considerations for all kinds of circulatory support technologies
- Answers questions about the differences between devices and how to manage them
New to this Edition:
- Describes management strategies for short term devices as well as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)
- Includes the most up-to-date information on mechanical circulatory support devices
Author Information
Lyle and David Joyce are a father/son team who currently practice adult cardiac surgery at Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. They have a vast clinical experience in the surgical management of heart failure, including cardiac transplantation, durable and short-term ventricular assist support, and cardiac replacement strategies for biventricular failure. They have collectively contributed more than 200 original articles to the medical literature, the majority of which have focused on the complex challenges of patients who require mechanical circulatory support.
