Introduction to Oral Cancer: Oral Precancer- Potentially Malignant Lesions and Conditions.- Molecular Biology of Oral Cancer.- Epidemiology of Oral Cancer. Oral Cancer Detection: Diagnostic Delays- The Root Cause of High Mortality Rate.- Conventional Methods.- Optical Techniques.- Colposcopy.- Histopathological Methods.- Imaging Methods.- Crystallization Patterns in Oral Cancer.- Bioimpedence Assessment in Oral Cancer.- Salivary Diagnostic Methods.- Nanotechnology.- Spectroscopy.- Conclusion and Future Directions.
This book equips clinicians with the knowledge required to detect oral cancer at the earliest possible stage while simultaneously inspiring researchers to work on novel methods of detection. All of the methods employed in the diagnosis of oral cancer are considered, from simple ones like oral screening to more complex preclinical methods like photo-acoustic imaging. Individual chapters focus on optical techniques, colposcopy, histological methods, imaging techniques, the crystallization test, bio-impedance assessment, saliva-based diagnostics, nanotechnology, and spectroscopic methods. Helpful information is also provided on the essentials of oral cancer, including molecular biology and epidemiology, and on the assessment of high-risk oral sites, the principles of oral examination, and the use of vital stains. The book bridges the gap between research and clinical care in oral cancer. Although some of the newer techniques are currently of active research interest, they may become powerful chairside tools in the near future with the potential to significantly influence decision-making and assist in reducing diagnostic delays.
